Around here at Casa Knightsky, it's pretty much a Labor Day tradition to crank up 'Working Man' by Rush... not that we usually need an excuse to play some Rush around here. However, in an attempt to class things up a bit (because I am, y'know, all about being classy), I now present a symphonic rendition of said song, courtesy of the Royal Freakin' Philharmonic Orchestra.
You're welcome.
(Will get back to posting Traveller-related stuff after I recover from DragonCon)
Allen Lanier, founding member of Blue Öyster Cult, passed away last week at the age of 67. Besides being a guitarist and an excellent keyboardist, he also wrote several songs for the band. Of these, "In Thee" is probably my favorite.
In the eternal debate of Stones vs Beatles, I have to give the nod to the Rolling Stones, simply because there is something about their music that seems to inspire other artists to make some truly excellent covers of their tunes. As an example, here is rock/blues/gospel singer Ashley Cleveland giving us a smokin' cover of "Gimme Shelter".
On this Memorial Day, as we remember those who have given their lives in service of our country, today's Music Monday is Dire Straits' soulful tribute to soldiers everywhere, "Brothers in Arms".
About 24 hours from now, my wife and I, along with a couple of friends, will head out to see the Avengers film, something that I'm pretty darned hyped for. What to do until then? Hey, I know! Let's listen to (and watch) Soundgarden's "Live To Rise", which is part of the Avengers soundtrack, and is the band's first single in about a decade and a half.
John Waite has had a long and varied musical career, both as a solo artist and with bands such as the Babys and Bad English. "Back On My Feet Again" comes from his time with the Babys, from the album Union Jacks.
Here in the U.S., today is the day when state and federal taxes are due, so what better choice for a Music Monday could there be than the cover of a Beatles classic by Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble?
Edit: as it turns out, Monday (the 16th) wasn't Tax Day after all - the 16h was a state holiday in Washington D.C., so as it turns out taxes are due on the 17th.
Okay, just a quickie here. The new Japanese trailer for the Avengers film is up. Most of it is footage we've already seen, but there are some new shots of the aliens and their ships, and we also get to see Hawkeye in action a bit.
